Trauma

Many patients treated for traumatic injuries in the emergency room or during surgery suffer significant blood loss. Such severe hemorrhage can cause oxygen deprivation in tissues and organs in the body.

Trauma-induced ischemia

Because MP4OX enhances oxygen delivery at the tissue level, we believe that it may benefit patients suffering from lactic acidosis due to hemorrhagic shock. When used in conjunction with the current standard of care (including red blood cells), MP4OX opens the vasculature and rapidly delivers oxygen at the tissue level where it is needed most. By providing oxygen to ischemic tissues and organs before injury occurs due to oxygen deprivation, MP4OX may decrease the duration of hospital admission, life support and even the likelihood of organ failure or death.

  • Approximately five million people die each year due to traumatic injury
  • Trauma cases account for:
    • 9 percent of global deaths
    • 12 percent of global disease burden
