Our product platform is based on the MP4 molecule, an investigational biopharmaceutical designed to enhance the perfusion and oxygenation of oxygen-deprived (ischemic) tissues and provide targeted oxygen delivery in the capillaries.
The MP4 molecule is made using a chemical process called pegylation. In this process, polyethylene glycol (PEG) polymers are chemically attached to the surface of unmodified hemoglobin tetramers derived from human red blood cells. Due to water's strong affinity for the PEG polymer, water molecules effectively surround the pegylated hemoglobin creating a PEG and water layer around the hemoglobin. This layer improves the properties of the molecule, allowing it to carry oxygen and other gases to optimize oxygen delivery through the capillaries, at the tissue level.
MP4OX - Enhancing the delivery of oxygen
We produce the MP4OX compound at the optimal oxygen affinity, diffusion potential and molecular size to deliver oxygen in the capillaries, where red blood cells may not reach when the body is suffering from trauma-related ischemia.
MP4CO - Delivering therapeutic carbon monoxide and oxygen
MP4CO is designed to deliver therapeutic, non-toxic levels of carbon monoxide (CO) and then oxygen to treat and potentially prevent sickle cell crises in patients with sickle cell anemia.
Sangart has designed the MP4 molecule so that it can carry oxygen and other gases to enhance therapeutic benefit.
Because of the critical role oxygen plays in the human body, MP4 has the potential to help patients with medical conditions that cause ischemia, including trauma and sickle cell crisis.
