HEMOSPAN
Sangart’s lead product, Hemospan®, is designed to deliver oxygen effectively and efficiently to tissues at risk of oxygen deprivation. Because of the critical role oxygenation plays in the human body, Hemospan® has the potential to be used to treat a wide variety of medical conditions.
Hemospan® has been tested in over 90 patients to date including a multi-site Phase II clinical trial completed in Sweden in 2005. No serious adverse events attributable to Hemospan® have been noted in any of these trials.

Sangart’s lead product candidate, Hemospan®, is a human hemoglobin-based product that is intended to serve as an alternative to red blood cell transfusions, among other uses.
Hemospan® is specifically designed to the optimal molecular size, viscosity, oxygen affinity and diffusion potential to target oxygen delivery to tissues at risk of oxygen deprivation. Compared to red blood cells, Hemospan® offers the avoidance of infectious disease, universal compatibility, longer storage life and an extension of the supply of donated blood.
The starting material for Hemospan® is unmodified hemoglobin derived from human red cells. Pharmaceutical grade polyethylene glycol (PEG) polymers are then attached to the surface of hemoglobin using simple chemical reactions.
